Brooklyn, NY: Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan leads Sacrament of Holy Unction in New Martyrs of Russia Church

On March 29, the Sunday of St. Mary of Egypt, His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, led the Sacrament of Holy Unction in Holy New Martyrs & Confessors of Russia Church in Brooklyn, NY. His Grace was co-served by diocesan clergy: diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov (parish rector), Archpriest Boris Oparin (rector of neighboring St. Joasaph of Belgorod Church in Brooklyn), Archpriest Petro Kunitsky (parish cleric), Archpriest Boris Slootsky (cleric of St. Alexander Nevsky Diocesan Cathedral in Howell, NJ), Priest Alexey Bykon (parish cleric), and Protodeacon Leonid Roschko (cleric of St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral).

Prior to the beginning of the service, Bishop Nicholas addressed the faithful with a sermon, in which he reminded them of the need to utilize the final days of Great Lent to better recognize one’s own sins and offer sincere repentance.

Almost 400 Orthodox Christians from Brooklyn and the other boroughs came to receive Holy Unction. Touching hymnody filled the church.

Upon completion of the Sacrament, Bishop Nicholas was given a tour of the church, which had just recently undergone remodeling, and shared his impressions with the parish rector. The church was entirely repainted inside, more than 20 large icons were added to those currently existing, and new vestments were bought for the clergy and altar servers.
