Decree on the convocation of a Diocesan Pastoral Conference



General  Information

Dates: October 21 - 23, 2009
The conference will open on Wednesday, October 21 at 9:00 AM and close on Friday, October 23 after Liturgy (approximately 3:00 PM). 

The Pastoral Conference is open to all priests, deacons and matushkas of the Eastern American Diocese. Each parish is responsible for reimbursing its clergy and matushkas for their traveling, accommodation, and registration expenses. 

The conference will feature:

  • Hierarchal services for the feast of the Holy Optina Elders will be led by the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York, co-served by the vicar bishops and clergy from all around the diocese.

  • A lecture by the famous author Archpriest Artemiy Vladimirov, a professor of St. Tikhon Theological Institute in Moscow and rector of All Saints Church in "Krasnoye Selo," Moscow.

  • A lecture by Matthew Gallatin.

  • A lecture by Archpriest Anastasy Yatrelis.

  • A report by the diocesan secretary on the work and progress of the diocesan administrative center.

  • A presentation by the Diocesan Media Office. 

  • Separate group meetings for clergy and matushkas at a local state park.

  • Liturgical workshop for clergy.

  • Choir rehearsals for the divine services led by members of the diocesan music commission.

  • Free time for social interaction.

All clergy delegates are reminded to wear their riasas, kamilavkas, and skufias during the work and meeting hours of the conference.

Registration

Each parish is responsible for reimbursing its clergy and matushkas for their traveling, accommodation, and registration expenses. Each parish treasurer is to forward a check in the amount of $200.00 per each attending clergyman or matushka. Registrations must be mailed by September 25th to:

Hotel Information

Each participant must make his own lodging arrangements with the LaQuinta or some other motel of his choice. The Hampton Inn has agreed to provide their double-occupancy rooms to us for $38 per night. When calling, please mention that you are attending the Russian Orthodox Clergy Conference in Atlanta.
