Rocky Hill, NJ: The Kursk Root Icon visited St. Elizabeth the New Martyr Church

On Tuesday, December 15, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited St. Elizabeth the New Martyr Church in Rocky Hill, NJ, for an evening moleben with akathist. The church was filled literally to the brim with the faithful, as parishioners from neighboring churches came to join in prayer. Diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov led the akathist, co-served by rector Archpriest David Straut, Archpriest James Parsells, rector of Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Manville, NJ (OCA), Priest John Cassar, rector of Our Lady, Joy of All Who Sorrow, Church in Princeton, NJ (OCA), Priest Victor Gorodenchuk, dean of St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Philadelphia, PA (OCA), and Priest Jonah Campbell, treasurer for the Eastern American Diocese.

Upon completion of the moleben, Fr. Serge presented Fr. David with a large copy of the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God on behalf of the First Hierarch. After everyone had venerated the icon, they gathered in the town firehouse, where a bountiful Lenten dinner was served, after which Fr. Serge presented a photomontage of the Kursk Root icon’s return to Russia.
