New York: Appeal of
His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion on the Upcoming Feast of St
Vladimir, Equal of the Apostles
Dear
Donors and Benefactors of the St. Vladimir Memorial Church!
The
wonderful day is approaching, when we annually commemorate the memory
of our great benefactor and baptizer, the holy equal-of-the-apostles
Great Prince Vladimir. I extend heartfelt greetings to all of you with
this feast, which is of such important significance for Orthodox
Russian people. As a wise, courageous and caring ruler, St. Vladimir
renounced the darkness of paganism, recognizing with his whole soul
the Truth - our Savior Jesus Christ -and desired that the whole nation
of Rus' be enlightened with the Light of Christ's Gospel in the waters
of baptism. We, the inheritors of this great benefaction, today
glorify and hymn in prayers his great labors. May these labors for the
Lord remain known far and wide, memorable to all future generations.
Today, our
love and gratitude to Saint Vladimir can be manifested in caring for
his Memorial Church in Jackson, built to commemorate the 950th
anniversary of the Baptism of Rus'. Seventy years have passed since
then and the Memorial Church, erected through the love and generosity
of so many Russian people, is in need of significant and immediate
repairs.
Together
let us extend financial help for the preservation of this historical
Memorial Church, so necessary for our spiritual well-being.
Believers,
please come to our assistance! The hand of the cheerful giver will
never experience need!

Projects
for which those who wish can donate:
1) The
main entrance doors are being replaced.
2) The
work of gilding the three small domes has begun.
3) Frescoes
in the altar of the lower church soon will be complete.
