An Appeal from the Director of the Holy Myrrhbearers Diocesan Women's Choir

Dear friends! Dear fellow music lovers!

With the blessing of His Eminence, Vladyka Metropolitan Hilarion, I am writing to you on behalf of the Holy Myrrhbearers Diocesan Women’s Choir as part of our membership drive to recruit new singers of all ages.

We are a unique, all-female liturgical choir, currently about 15 voices strong. This year we celebrated the twelfth anniversary of our performing sacred music, both in church and in concert. The choir was created for and by Orthodox women who share a deep feeling for Slavonic liturgical music and interest in expanding the performance of Orthodox music arranged for women’s voices.

Our ensemble is now in residence at the Otrada Cultural Center, 385 South Pascack Road in Chestnut Ridge (Rockland County), New York 10977. Our group sings divine services as well as liturgical concerts in the Greater New York metropolitan area. We have also been named a diocesan choir of the Diocese of Eastern America of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, although we welcome interested singers from all backgrounds and jurisdictions. Our Choir sings mostly in Church Slavonic, but we are able to provide transliterated music to singers when necessary.

You can help us to expand the reach of our sacred music performances by posting the enclosed recruiting flyer on your community bulletin board, parish or organization Web site and by relaying news of our Choir to female singers. For more information on our group, you may visit www.womenschoir.org. In addition, our music is featured daily on the Orthodox Internet radio station Ancient Faith Radio (www.ancientfaithradio.com). We would be happy to send you a CD of our concert recordings that is currently available for sale and we will gladly answer any questions you may have about our choir or our work.

We thank you in advance for your time and kind consideration, and may the Lord bless you in your own God-pleasing efforts!

In Christ,
Eugenia Temidis, Director
Holy Myrrhbearers Diocesan Women’s Choir
