New York, NY: A meeting was held between the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad and Archpriest Artemy Vladimirov

artemny.lg.jpg (49314 bytes)On Tuesday, February 23, renowned author of spiritual literature and member of the Union of Russian Writers, Archpriest Artemy Vladimirov, arrived in New York on an evening flight from Moscow. With the blessing of His Holiness, Patriarch Kyrill, and His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, Fr. Artemy will be visiting the Eastern American Diocese until March 9, 2010. Included in the schedule of our honored guest in the diocese are divine services in St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Washington, DC, Holy Trinity Monastery, Holy Cross Monastery, and St. George’s Church in Howell, NJ. Fr. Artemy will also take part in the Lenten Retreat and Pastoral Conference at St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Mayfield, PA. Fr. Artemy is scheduled to hold two spiritual discussions with diocesan clergy during the conference.

On Wednesday morning, February 24, Fr. Artemy, accompanied by diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov, visited the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign and prayed at the Liturgy of the Pre-Sanctified Gifts in St. Sergius of Radonezh Church. After the Liturgy, a meeting was held between the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion and Fr. Artemy. Also taking part in the meeting were His Grace Jerome, Bishop of Manhattan, and Fr. Serge. Welcoming the distinguished guest to the Eastern American Diocese, the First Hierarch expressed his hope for the development of strong relationships with diocesan clergy and for a fruitful visit. Fr. Artemy also met with His Grace Peter, Bishop of Cleveland, after which the cathedral’s Senior Priest, Archpriest Andrei Sommer, conducted a tour of the Synodal Cathedral, showing Fr. Artemy the various holy relics and items of historical interest housed in the cathedral.

Upon completion of the Synod visit, the delegation visited St. Nicholas Patriarchal Cathedral and Representation Church of the Moscow Patriarchate in the United States, where they were greeted by cathedral cleric Igumen Joseph (Kryukov). Fr. Joseph conducted a tour of the cathedral and told the guests about the history of the cathedral and the representation of the MP in the United States.

Fr. Artemy Vladimirov is the rector of All Saints Church in Krasnoe Selo. He is a professor at St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University of Humanities, where he is the head of the Homiletics Department. Click here for more information on Fr. Artemy.
