Pearl River, NY: Singers of the Holy Myrrhbearers Women’s Choir presented a concert at Holy Transfiguration Church

pr.lg.jpg (57259 bytes)On a lovely autumn Saturday, October 23, six singers from the Holy Myrrhbearers Diocesan Women’s Choir participated in the choir for hierarchal Divine Liturgy and ensuing festivities marking the inaugural archpastoral visit of His Grace, the Right Reverend Bishop Michael of New York and the Diocese of NY and NJ ( OCA ) to the parish of the Holy Transfiguration Church in Pearl River, NY.

Individual HMWC members were invited by parish rector Abbot Joseph (Hoffman) to help supplement the parish choir under direction of Tatiana Tjoa , also a member of HMWC. With the added participation of experienced voices from both the women’s choir and the Spirit of Orthodoxy Choir, the typically small local parish choir was able to prepare beautifully and prayerfully sung challenging liturgical works by such names as Chesnokov, Kastalsky, Ippolitov-Ivanov and Archangelsky for this festive service.

After the Liturgy, all those present were invited to a reception and sumptuous meal in honor of Bishop Michael’s visit, at which the HMWC singers were invited to present a short liturgical concert program consisting of works by Trubachev, the new-martyr Archpriest Michael Lisitsyn, Arensky, Turenkov, and Ledkovsky in Slavonic, English, and Greek.
