Jordanville: St. Herman’s Youth Conference was held at Holy Trinity Monastery and Seminary

St. Herman’s Youth Conference was held at Holy Trinity Monastery and Seminary in Jordanville, NY, from Friday, December 24 to Tuesday, December 28. Youth from all across the diocese gathered at the conference.

On Sunday, December 26, His Grace Gabriel, Bishop of Montreal, celebrated the Liturgy of St. James, the Brother of the Lord, co-served by monastery clergy and clerics participating in the conference. The differences in the service, whose rites have preserved since the first centuries of Christianity, were clearly evident, and allowed the faithful to feel the spirit of ancient prayer and become participants of the rites and traditions use by Christians almost 2,000 years ago.

After the Liturgy and meal in the refectory, conference participants gathered in the seminary hall to hear a lecture by seminary inspector Hieromonk Cyprian (Alexandrou). Fr. Cyprian gave an informative and practical lecture on the importance of living piously, and of the dangers and temptations that face man in day-to-day life, sharing the advice of the holy fathers on how to acquire a spirit of wisdom, becoming a receptacle of God’s grace.

Conference participants then had an opportunity to visit nearby Cooperstown, where many sang Christmas carols. Later that evening, everyone regrouped at the parish of St. John of Kronstadt in Utica, where the rector, Archpriest Michael Taratuchin, gave a tour and then served a moleben to St. John of Kronstadt. Dinner was served in the parish hall; finally, all the participants returned to the hotel, where they spent a very pleasant rest of the evening.
