Lenoir City, TN: The Kursk Root Icon visited St. Nektarios Church

On Monday, February 14, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited St. Nektarios Church in Lenoir City, TN. The Mission recently acquired a picturesque property on a hill, complete with former Protestant church. The church is currently undergoing major renovations, by which parishioners hope to convert this old church into a real Orthodox temple.

So many of the faithful gathered at the church that the moleben had to be served outside, in front of the church, instead of inside the parish hall (where a temporary church has been set up) as planned. Eastern American Diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov served the moleben and akathist to the Most Holy Theotokos before the wonderworking Icon, co-served by parish rector Priest Job Watts.

Upon completion of the moleben, Fr. Serge delivered a sermon to the gathered faithful in which he reminded them about the heavenly and never-ceasing intercessions of the Theotokos for all mankind. He called on the parishioners to support Fr. Job in the holy labor of finishing the renovations in the church, and affirmed the support of the diocesan administration. Fr. Serge then presented the rector with a copy of the Kursk Root Icon – a blessing from Metropolitan Hilarion, First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad.
