"In the Mother of God, as it is sung in another hymn, the laws of nature are defeated. In Her, virginity led to birth, and death to life. After giving birth, she remained a virgin, and after her death, remained alive. Thereby this feast is the fulfillment of the Paschal feast, when we 'celebrate the annihilation of death and the beginning of eternal life.'

On Friday, August 28, the great feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God, the sisters and faithful of the Convent of the Dormition at Novo-Diveevo celebrated their patronal feast day. The day began with an akathist to the Mother of God and a Lesser Blessing of Water.

On Tuesday, August 11, Bishop George visited the Russian community in Nashville, accompanied by the diocesan council’s Southern liaison, Priest John Moses. The purpose of the visit was to meet with the faithful and discuss plans for opening a new ROCOR parish in Nashville.

Nyack, NY: "Hawaiian" Myrrh-Streaming Iveron Icon of the Mother of God visits Holy Virgin Protection Church

On Friday, August 21, the miraculous "Hawaiian" myrrh-streaming Iveron icon of the Mother of God visited the Holy Virgin Protection Parish in Nyack, New York. The icon is a replica of the Iveron Icon that Brother Jose Muños-Cortes received on Mount Athos, which became a myrrh-streaming as well as healing icon.

 

Mayfield, PA: The faithful of the Pennsylvania Deanery held a pilgrimage to the Protection of the Mother of God Greek monastery

On August 17, the "Hawaiian" Myrrh Streaming Iveron Icon of the Mother of God visited the Greek Orthodox Convent of the Protection of the Mother of God in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Weatherly, Pennsylvania. This visit would be the first time that the Icon of the Mother of God has traveled to the East Coast from Her home in Hawaii.

On Saturday, August 15, His Grace, Bishop George, arrived from Holy Cross Monastery to St. Nicholas Church in Fletcher, NC, to lead the divine services and perform the priestly ordination of Deacon Jonah Campbell. During the All-Night Vigil, His Grace was co-served by Archpriest Serge Lukianov, Priest Onouphry Keith, Hieromonk Alexander, Hierodeacon Sergius, Deacon Jonah Campbell, and Deacon Leonid Roschko.

 

The First Feast of the Savior in Holy Trinity and Holy Cross Monasteries

On Friday, August 14, on the first day of the Dormition Fast, the Orthodox Church marks the feast day of the Procession of the Life-Giving Cross, also known as the "First Savior," the "Honey Savior," or the "Savior on the Water." At the end of the Liturgy, in accordance with the Typicon, the Lesser Blessing of the Water and blessing of honey take place. On this day, bees cease their production of honey and begin to eat their reserves.

Fr. Joasaph was co-served by Fr. Victor Boldewskul, rector of the Church of the Epiphany in Boston.
