New York: The Myrrh-Streaming Icon of the Mother of God "Softener of Evil Hearts" visits Novo-Diveevo

On September 22, the myrrh-streaming icon of the Mother of God the "Softener of Evil Hearts," widely renowned throughout Russia, visited the convent and nursing home located in Novo-Diveevo. Despite the icon's many travels, her regular home is in the Moscow suburb village of Bachurino. She began to stream myrrh in a Moscow apartment when, in 1998, this otherwise regular image was placed on the relics of St. Matrona of Moscow.

On Sunday, September 27, on the feast of the Exaltation of the Precious and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, the brethren of Holy Cross Monastery marked the monastery's patronal feast day. On the eve of the feast, Abbot Seraphim (Voepel) served the All-Night Vigil with the Bringing out of the Cross.

On Monday, September 21, on the feast of the Nativity of the Mother of God, His Grace Jerome, Bishop of Manhattan, celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign. On September 23, Archbishop Arseny of Istra (vicar of the Moscow Diocese) celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow, co-served by Archpriests Vladimir Divakov and Michael Ryazantsev, clerics of the capital city. Present at the service were His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, and other reverend archpastors of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR).

The miraculous icon of the Mother of God the “Softener of Evil Hearts” visited Holy Virgin Protection Church on Monday, September 21, the great feast of the Nativity of the Mother of God. The icon was greeted by Archpriest Ilya Gorsky and Protodeacon Serge Arlievsky at the doors of the church, which was filled to capacity with over 200 worshipers.

Middlebrook, VA: Greek-Slavic Festival hosted by All Saints of North America Parish

On Saturday, September 19, over 1,000 people attended the 3rd Annual Greek-Slavic Festival, sponsored by the All Saints of North America Church in Middlebrook, Virginia. The Festival was held at the Octagonal Barn at the Frontier Culture Museum, located in Staunton, Virginia. 

 

New York: Yuri Schidlovsky reposed in the Lord

On Saturday, September 19, at the age of 82, Yuri I. Schidlovsky, third president of the Fund for Assistance to the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. Yuri dedicated his whole life to the Russian Church Abroad and to the founding of ROCOR's Fund for Assistance. In 2007, Yuri was awarded the Synodal Order of the Sign 2nd Class by the ever-memorable Metropolitan Laurus.
