Washington: Bishop George of Mayfield officiated the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts in St. John the Baptist Cathedral

On Friday, March 25, His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop George of Mayfield, officiated the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts in St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Washington, DC. Before the Liturgy was to begin, Bishop George called upon all the clergy to ask one another’s forgivness before communing of Christ’s Holy Mysteries, remarking that, "although the clergy ask their parishioners for forgiveness on Forgiveness Sunday, how rarely are we given the chance to ask it of our co-brothers. Let us make the most of this opportunity and fulfill Christ’s commandment that we, in the words of the Apostle Paul – forgive one another, even as God hath forgiven us for Christ’s sake, Who camest into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. I wholeheartedly ask that you forgive me, a sinner." All of the clerics then asked forgiveness of one another, and the Liturgy began.

His Grace was co-served at the Liturgy by His Grace Jerome, vicar Bishop of Manhattan, and participating clergy of the Pastoral Conference. During the Little Entrance, with the blessing of Metropolitan Hilarion, Bishop George bestowed awards upon several clerics of the diocese. During the communion of the clergy, Archpriest Chad Williams (rector of St. Alexander Nevsky Church in Richmond, ME) delivered a wonderful sermon. Upon completion of the Liturgy, a farewell luncheon was held in the parish hall.
