St. Nicholas Church
On Sunday, December 18, the feast of Ven. Sabbas the Sanctified, His
Grace Nicholas, Bishop of Manhattan, visited St. Nicholas Church in
Stratford, CT, on the eve of the parish’s patronal feast. The vicar
of the Eastern American Diocese was met by children with baskets of
flower petals and was greeted by parish warden Leo Dexter Peavy, who
welcomed His Grace to the parish and thanked him for coming.

Anniversary of St. Alexander Nevsky Parish
The first church founded in the Eastern American Diocese (itself
organized in 1934) was dedicated to St. Alexander Nevsky, founded in
Howell, New Jersey, in 1936, with the blessing of Archbishop Vitaly
(Maximenko). Eighty years later, the parish, which once had
comprised a handful of parishioners gathering in a humble wooden
chapel in the woods, has grown to be a cathedral, currently the
Diocesan Center.

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, and has been
devastated by Hurricane Matthew. Close to a 1,000 have lost their
lives. Members of our ROCOR Mission in Haiti have suffered, as well.
While none have lost their lives, all have endured damage to their
meager property and crops. Especially hard hit were our brothers in
Les Cayes in the country’s south.

On Wednesday, November 9, Archimandrite Innocent (Potter; cleric of
the Eastern American Diocese) reposed in the Lord. He was 67. Fr.
Innocent was born in Nova Scotia in 1949. Though of Russian
heritage, he began his service in 1989 in the old calendarist
"Genuine Greek Orthodox Church of America," where he was tonsured a
reader and ordained subdeacon, deacon, and priest by Metropolitan
Paisios (Loulourgas).

Philadelphia, PA: Joy of All Who Sorrow Parish celebrates 65th
Anniversary
On Sunday, November 6, the feast day of the Icon of the Mother of
God "Joy of All Who Sorrow," Our Lady "Joy of All Who Sorrow" Church
in Philadelphia, PA celebrated its 65th patronal feast day. Although
officially founded in 1951 by Archpriest Eugene Lyzlov, the parish
provided shelter and comfort for hundreds of Russian Orthodox
families displaced by the Russian Revolution and World War II

anniversary of its founding in 1891. Originally founded as a
Byzantine Catholic church by Carpatho-Russian immigrants, the parish

On Wednesday, September 28, Archpriest Gregory Williams reposed
suddenly in the Lord at age 75. His passing saw an immediately
outpouring of testimonies bearing witness to his love for all those
around him.
Born in April 23, 1941, Fr. Gregory was the son of William and Mabel
Lee Williams. In 1980, he was ordained to the diaconate and
priesthood by Bishop Gregory Grabbe.

On Saturday, August 13, an automobile collision sent one car flying
into the main church at Holy Virgin Protection Skete in Buena, NJ,
causing severe damage to the front entrance to the building. Because

old.
Born in Ft. Worth, TX, Fr. Thomas adopted Orthodoxy as an adult. In
1972, he married Catherine Kaschak. In 1990, he was ordained a
subdeacon by Metropolitan Philip (Saliba), head of the Antiochian
Archdiocese of North America. He completed seminary courses in that
jurisdiction in 1993.

On Friday, February 6, Archimandrite Athanasy (Mastalski), longtime
rector of Joy of All Who Sorrow Church in Philadelphia, PA, reposed
in the Lord. He was 69 years old. Fr. Athanasy was born on June 24,
1946 in Philadelphia. In 1975, he was ordained a deacon, and in the
following year a priest, by Archbishop Nikon (Rklitsky).
