Jackson, NJ: "Father Vladyka" – A Video Lecture on Archbishop Vitaly (Maximenko) by Protopresbyter Valery Lukianov

On Wednesday, March 21, local clergy prayerfully marked the 52nd anniversary of the repose of the ever-memorable Archbishop Vitaly (Maximenko) at St. Vladimir Memorial Church in Jackson, NJ. New Jersey dean Protopresbyter Valery Lukianov celebrated the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts, co-served by diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov and parish clerics Priest Serge Ledkovsky and Deacon Paul Drozdowski. Parish Deacon Alexander Smida also prayed in the altar. Upon completion of the Liturgy, a panihida was served at the tomb of Archbishop Vitaly.

After the divine services, Fr. Valery led a discussion in the parish hall on the life and legacy of Archbishop Vitaly. Fr. Valery gave some biographical information, shared some personal stories, and explained the importance of His Eminence’s legacy in the current day and age. Fr. Valery summarized Archbishop Vitaly’s entire life, by using the nickname given to him by the monks of Holy Trinity Monastery – "Father Vladyka." The brethren called him this because he lived amongst them not as an archbishop, but as one of the monks, who was known for his virtuous life, which he lived in piety and humility.

The lecture was filmed by the diocesan Media Office and produced as part of the Pastoral Resources Program. The entire lecture and the discussion that followed in Russian are available to our readers below.
