Lenoir City, TN: Parish News from St. Nektarios Church

In late 2009, shortly after the formation of St. Nektarios Mission, the faithful of this new community purchased an 85-year-old former Presbyterian church, with an adjoining fellowship hall, on nearly two acres of land near Knoxville, TN. The members of the mission planned to renovate the church by themselves and make it into a proper Orthodox temple. It did not take long to realize, however, that the work needed to renovate the building greatly exceeded their expectations, as well as their ability to complete it in a reasonable period of time.

Thanks to God’s Providence and the donated materials and support of many, including an architect/engineer experienced with historic structures and familiar with Orthodox churches, much work has taken place beginning in the spring of 2012. A local contractor has been retained to perform the majority of the work, as funds allow.

The St. Nektarios community, under the direction of rector Priest Job Watts, has grown from approximately 20 original members in 2009 to over 50 at the present time. Until they are able to occupy the church itself, they will continue to worship in the attached fellowship hall, which now serves as the chapel. Divine Liturgy is served on Sundays at 10:00 AM, with the hours at 9:40 AM. Vigil is held on alternating Saturdays. The church is located at:
