Little Falls, NJ: The Diocesan Secretary took part in a Liturgy for the Departed and a Session of the Bishop’s Council of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA

On Tuesday, November 13, on the 40th day after the repose of Archpriest Sergei Kosich, the Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA, His Eminence Justinian, Archbishop of Naro-Fominsk, led a panihida in St. John the Baptist Church in Little Falls, NJ, of which the departed served as rector.

That morning, a Liturgy for the departed, led by the Dean of the Eastern States Archpriest George Konyev, was served in the church by a gathering of clergy of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA. Concelebrating was the secretary of ROCOR’s Eastern American Diocese, Archpriest Serge Lukianov.

Prior to the beginning of the panihida, His Eminence delivered a sermon, in which he called upon the clergy and faithful to fervently pray for the repose of the ever-memorable Archpriest Sergei.

After the service, on behalf of the First Hierarch and clergy of ROCOR, Fr. Serge Lukianov expressed condolences to the parishioners of St. John the Baptist Church and to Matushka Natalia, to whom he presented a copy of the myrrh-streaming Hawaiian Icon of the Mother of God and myrrh from the Icon itself, as a comfort and blessing.

Upon completion of the Liturgy, a regular session of the Bishop’s Council was held, led in its work by the Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes, Archbishop Justinian. At His Eminence’s invitation, Fr. Serge likewise took part in the Council meeting.

Archbishop Justinian and members of the Bishop’s Council heard proposals by Fr. Serge regarding a series of joint events and services between clergy of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA and ROCOR in 2012. The Council resolved to holy a joint service on the Sunday of Orthodoxy, March 24th, in Sts. Peter & Paul cathedral in Passaic, NJ. Additionally, during Great Lent next year, two joint clergy conferences and services are to be held: April 1-3 in Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, and April 8-10 in the Eastern American Diocese’s Holy Cross Monastery. The resolutions of the Bishop’s Council will be presented at the regular session of the Eastern American Diocesan Council on November 15 in Howell, NJ.
