Nanuet, NY: Fire burns down family home outside Novo-Diveevo Convent

At around 3:00 AM on Wednesday, April 10, a devastating fire tore through a bungalow in the Village (Поселокъ) section of the grounds at Holy Dormition Convent "Novo-Diveevo" in Nanuet, NY. The Orthodox family from the Ukraine living in the bungalow woke to the smell and sounds of the fire. The husband, wife, and their son, a college student in his twenties, miraculously escaped the building before it was completely engulfed in flames. By God’s grace, there were no serious, life-threatening injuries.

The bungalow is located in the western portion of the convent, away from the main campus, in the area known as the Village. The family lost all their belongings, including a car that was parked near their home. There was some damage to two other homes on either side of the fire and another vehicle parked nearby. The home and all of its contents are a total loss.

Please pray for Yaroslav, Alexsandra, and Mikhail. They were all evaluated and treated at the hospital for minor burns and smoke inhalation. All three are expected to make a full recovery. Alexsandra works with the elderly residents of the convent’s adult home.

Novo-Diveevo is accepting monetary donations for the family. Checks can be made out to:
