A Renovations Appeal
from ROCOR’s Mission in Haiti
For
almost 20 years, the Orthodox Mission in Haiti has been carrying on
its work under the jurisdiction of the Russian Church Abroad, with
3,000 faithful gathering together in prayer at seven parishes
throughout the country. The Mission operates several schools,
including one of Haiti’s few educational institutions for mentally
retarded and handicapped children.
Alexander Gertsovitch, a parishioner at St.
Vladimir Church in Miami, FL recently returned from a month-long
trip to Haiti. Together with Priest Gregoire and Mat. Rose Legouté,
Alexander visited six of the seven ROCOR parishes across Haiti.
There, he made plans for the construction of traditional Russian
(storable) iconostases and small cupolas for the several churches of
the Mission that have none. God willing, his work will be completed
by the end of 2013.
This ambitious project is cost $4,000. With
the blessing of the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, His
Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, the Haitian Mission is appealing to
our readers to help raise these funds. Among the parishes that will
benefit:
St. Irenaeus Church and Parish School in Maissade
need an iconostasis and cupola.
St. Augustine Church and
Parish School in Jacmel need an iconostasis and cupola.
Sts. Peter & Paul Church
in Léogâne needs an iconostasis and cupola.
