Romny
: The 35th Anniversary of Archbishop Andrei (Rymarenkos) repose was commemorated in the Ukraine

The 35th anniversary of the repose of Archbishop Andrei (Rymarenko) was commemorated not only within the confines of the Eastern American Diocese, but even in the Ukraine. Located in northeastern Ukraine, in the Sumy region, is the small city of Romny, where Archbishop Andrei, then still Archpriest Adrian, served for five years (1921-1926) as rector of St. Alexander Nevsky Church. In 1926, the godless authorities closed the church, and in 1962 demolished it with explosives.

With the blessing of Archbishop Eulogius of Sumy & Akhtyrka, believers in Romny marked the 120th anniversary of Archbishop Andrei’s birth and the 35th anniversary of his repose, it was reported on the official site of the Diocese of Sumy. On Saturday, July 13, the Romny historical society organized a lecture on Archbishop Andrei’s life; in attendance were the clergy of the Romny Deanery, representatives of the municipal government, and parishioners. Also present was a relative of the Archbishop’s – Oxana Rymarenko, who traveled from Moscow.

On Sunday, July 14, a panihida was served on the site of the demolished St. Alexander Nevsky Church. Photographs of the events in Romny are available to our visitors below.
