Nanuet, NY: Bishop George pays Archpastoral Visit to Novo-Diveevo

On Saturday the 29th and Sunday the 30th of March ‒ the Sunday of St. John Climacus ‒ His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop George of Mayfield, visited Holy Dormition Convent "Novo-Diveevo" in Nanuet, NY. When Bishop George arrived for the All-Night Vigil on Saturday evening, he was warmly welcomed by the sisters, clergy, and faithful. Following the service, His Grace had tea with senior convent cleric Archpriest Alexander Fedorowski and members of the clergy. Their honored guest spent time speaking with everyone before retiring for the evening.

On Sunday morning, the Akathist to the Most Holy Theotokos was served, following which the clergy greeted the bishop and began the Divine Liturgy. His Grace was co-served by the clergy of Novo-Diveevo: Fr. Alexander and Protodeacon Serge Arlievsky, as well as Archimandrite Peter (Kondratyev) of the Australian Diocese. The faithful filled the church, and many of them partook of Holy Communion. In his sermon, Bishop George spoke about the value of Great Lent and the spiritual need for fasting, especially as elucidated by St. John in The Ladder. Upon completion of the Liturgy, the Polychronion was intoned for those celebrating their namesdays, in honor of St. John Climacus, St. Alexius the Man of God, and St. Patrick of Ireland.

After the service, Bishop George stayed for a lenten luncheon provided in the refectory. His Grace also spent time talking with the sisters of the convent and visiting with some of the faithful before departing home for Holy Cross Monastery.
