"The Brightest Luminary of the Russian Land:" Holy Trinity Seminary to host Student Conference on 700th Anniversary of St. Sergius of Radonezh’s Birth

Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary in Jordanville, NY invites paper proposals from students of Orthodox seminaries in North America for a Seminary Student Conference marking the 700th anniversary of the birth of one of the greatest Russian saints, the Venerable Sergius of Radonezh (1314-1392).

Students of theology from various Orthodox Christian traditions are invited to submit paper proposals, no more than 200 words in length, outlining the topic and scope of their paper.

The papers are expected to focus on historical, theological, ascetical, liturgical, and cultural aspects of the life, legacy, and influence of St Sergius in the context of his time. In considering these themes, papers may also reflect on the relevance of the legacy of St. Sergius for the mission of Orthodox Christianity in North America.

The conference will take place at Holy Trinity Seminary on Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th, 2014. The keynote address, the topic of which will be announced at a later date, will be delivered on Friday evening the by Archpriest Paul Velikanov of Moscow Theological Academy.

Room and board will be provided by Holy Trinity Seminary, and modest travel stipends will be made available to applicants who submit their paper proposal by May 8, 2014.

All proposals are subject to review by the Organizing Committee, and will be judged on the basis of clarity, originality, and relevance to the theme of the conference.
