Nicholas visits St. Vladimir Church with Kursk Root Icon
On
Saturday the 12th and Sunday the 13th of December, His Grace
Nicholas, Bishop of Manhattan, paid an archpastoral visit to St.
Vladimir Church in Miami, FL. The vicar of the Eastern American
Diocese accompanied the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God in her
visitation to Florida, and the divine services were held under the
aegis of the Protectress of the Russian Diaspora.
On Sunday morning, Bishop Nicholas
celebrated the Divine Liturgy, co-served by parish rector Archpriest
Daniel McKenzie, Priest Mykhailo Mykhailenko (parish cleric),
Protodeacon Dimitri Temidis (cleric of Holy Virgin Protection Church
in Nyack, NY, accompanying His Grace), Protodeacon Thomas Branch
(parish cleric), and Deacon Alexander Doohovskoy (cleric of St.
Xenia Church in Methuen, MA).
During the reading of the Hours, Bishop
Nicholas tonsured Dimitry Doohovskoy, Andrei Dzengluk, Alexander
Peretyagin, and David Martinez readers, and then ordained Readers
Dimitry and Andrei subdeacons. After the Eucharistic Canon, His
Grace ordained Subdeacon Dimitry to the diaconate. The newly
ordained Deacon Dimitry will fulfill his service at St. Vladimir
Church.
Upon completion of the service, a bountiful
luncheon was offered for the clergy and faithful in the parish hall,
where words of congratulation were offered to the newly tonsured
readers and ordained subdeacon and deacon.
