Spring Valley, NY: First Argentinian "Asado" Luncheon held to
Benefit Novo-Diveevo
On
Sunday, October 4, friends of Holy Dormition Convent Novo-Diveevo in
Nanuet, NY gathered at the "Otrada" Russian Society in neighboring
Spring Valley, and held an "Asado" luncheon, featuring meat
barbequed over coals according to Argentinian recipes. One of the
main organizers and chefs of Asado is convent cleric Archpriest
Yaroslav Belikow.
Thanks to the efforts of the organizers, an Argentinian atmosphere
was created in Otrada’s "Lesser Hall," where the national colors –
light blue and white – reigned. Thanks to the detailed addition of
Argentinian cultural items and souvenirs, many of the guests who
once lived in Argentina remembered the South American country with
nostalgia. Playing in the background were Argentinian tangos and
folk music.
Despite the forecasters promising rain and wind from Hurricane
Joaquin, the day turned out to be sunny and warm. Since it was the
first year the luncheon was being held, the hosts were pleasantly
surprised at the turnout of guests, which was much higher than
expected.
The meat – prepared according to the classic Argentinian recipe and
served with rare delicacies alongside Argentinian chimichurri sauce
– overjoyed the gathered diners.
Of course, the event could not go without South America’s favorite
sport: the high-spirited youth played an intensive game of soccer on
the sports field.
Many expressed the hope and wish that such events would be held
again often in the future.
All proceeds from the "Asado" luncheon will go to cover restoration
expenses at the Novo-Diveevo convent.
