Brooklyn, NY: Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan leads Sacrament of Holy Unction in New Martyrs of Russia Church

On April 17, the Sunday of St. Mary of Egypt, His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, led the Sacrament of Holy Unction in Holy New Martyrs & Confessors of Russia Church in Brooklyn, NY. His Grace was co-served by local clergy: diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov (parish rector), Archpriest Boris Oparin (rector of neighboring St. Joasaph of Belgorod Church), Archpriest Petro Kunitsky (parish cleric), Archpriest Rafael Melendez (Albanian Orthodox Church), Priest Vitaliy Lalyukov (cleric of the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City), Protodeacon Paul Drozdowski (cleric of St. Alexander Nevsky Diocesan Cathedral in Howell, NJ), and Deacon Petr Utkin (parish cleric).

Before the beginning of the service, Bishop Nicholas addressed the faithful with a sermon, in which he reminded them of the need to utilize the final days of Great Lent to better recognize one’s own sins and offer sincere repentance.

Almost 400 Orthodox Christians from Brooklyn and the other New York boroughs came to receive Holy Unction. Touching hymnody by the parish’s male choir filled the church.
