Nyack, NY: Holy Virgin Protection Church’s Fresco Restoration Nativity Appeal

Holy Virgin Protection Church in Nyack, NY has undertaken the task of restoring the church’s historic iconography. This project is both expensive and time-consuming, and the parish is asking for the aid of benefactors in completing this good work. Below is a brief appeal from parish rector Archpriest Ilya Gorsky:

"Our beautiful, historic temple has suffered the ravages of time and the elements. Over the last three years, our parish has undertaken a monumental task: the restoration of our beautiful and unique frescoes. They are unique in that they were written by the hand of our memorable parishioner, the iconographer Nicholas Papkov, and some by Archpriest Seraphim Slobodskoy. They are also unique in that the arrangement of beautiful colors and deep symbolism in such a small space encompasses the entire Biblical history – from the beginning of Creation to the glorious Resurrection of our Lord. The frescoes have suffered from 65 years of temperature changes and candle soot. Today, they breathe again, renewed to a brightness and fullness of life from three quarters of a century ago. So far, by the Grace of God, we were able to raise half of the required modest $40,000 for such a great project. The rest was taken from operational and emergency parish funds that now urgently need to be replenished."

Please help defray the cost of the fresco restoration. You can make a check out to Holy Virgin Protection Church, or click here.
