Howell, NJ: Eastern American Diocesan Lenten Pastoral Retreat begins at Diocesan Center

On Monday evening, March 28, the annual Lenten Retreat for clergy and matushkas of the Eastern American Diocese convened at the Diocesan Center at St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Howell, NJ. Ninety people were in attendance, hailing from virtually every state in the Diocese, as well as clerics from the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA.

The Retreat opened with the traditional Great Compline, served in Our Lady of Tikhvin Church. Greeting the participants, Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan noted that Great Lent is a time of augmented prayer for the departed; in conjunction with this, the diocesan administration had prepared a list of hierarchs, clergy, and matushkas, who had labored for the good of the Diocese for many years before departing for the next life. A panihida was then served for their repose.

Upon completion of the panihida, dinner was served for all of the participants. Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York then presided at a meeting of the Diocesan Council.
