Nanuet, NY: On Thomas Sunday, Metropolitan Hilarion celebrates
Liturgy in Novo-Diveevo
After
a joyful Bright Week, during which there was an incredible amount of
rain, came St. Thomas Sunday. In St. Seraphim Cathedral of Holy
Dormition Convent Novo-Diveevo in Nanuet, NY, the Divine Liturgy was
celebrated by Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York.
In the nearby parish of the Holy Virgin Protection Church in Nyack,
services were canceled so that the clergy could concelebrate at the
convent. By the end of the service the rain had stopped, and the
whole assembly of the clergy headed in procession to the monument to
the fallen Russian soldiers. There, the Paschal Memorial Litiya was
served, commemorating departed ROCOR hierarchs, all of the soldiers
who died in the struggle for freedom in Russia, and all of those
Orthodox Christians laid to rest in the cemetery and everywhere.
After the service, at the request of the faithful, priests served
the traditional graveside Paschal Memorial Litiyas. A huge number of
pilgrims had the opportunity to eat delicious food offered by
various church and social organizations. The faithful had the chance
to acquire interesting and useful books in the convent’s book nook,
and just to spend time and socialize with one another.
