Nyack, NY: Russian Festival held at Holy Virgin Protection Parish

Jordanville: Great Consecration of the Church of St. Job of Pochaev at Holy Trinity Monastery

On November 22, 2009, for the first time in its fifty-year history, the full consecration of the lower church of Holy Trinity Monastery, dedicated to St. Job of Pochaev, the patron saint of the monastery and the brotherhood’s printshop, took place. This event coincided with the 350-year anniversary of the opening of the relics of the saint.

Washington D.C.: Cleric of the Eastern American Diocese Receives "Good Samaritan" Award of Priest Georghe Calciu Foundation

The awards ceremony was held Nov. 20, 2009 at the Romanian Embassy in Washington, D.C.   Archpriest Victor Potapov, rector of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist was presented  the Calciu Foundation Award by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Romania Adrian Vierita. Priest Georghe Kalchu-Dumitreasa was an outstanding confessor of Orthodoxy, who for the faith suffered long prison terms (21 years), torture and death threats.

 

Paterson, NJ: Bishop Jerome celebrated the Divine Liturgy in St. Michael's Cathedral

The 24th Anniversary of the repose of the third First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, His Eminence, Metropolitan Philaret

On November 8/21, 1985, on the feast of the Archangel Michael and all the Heavenly Bodiless Hosts, the third First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, His Eminence Philaret (Voznesensky), Metropolitan of Eastern America and New York, reposed in the Lord. Today, in Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY, upon completion of the Divine Liturgy a litiya was served at the tomb of the ever-memorable First Hierarch. 

 

Decree to all rectors regarding a special collection for Priest Rodion Aragon

Priest Rodion Aragon, the sole priest of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad serving in Costa Rica, is deathly ill with stomach cancer. According to Archpriest Daniel McKenzie, Fr. Rodion had been under medical observation for the last several weeks, in connection with a mystery illness that had been causing him much pain and had prohibited him from eating.  

 

Belgrade: His Holiness, Patriarch Pavle of Serbia, has reposed in the Lord

On Sunday, November 15, at 10:45 AM (local time) at the Military Medical Academy, the primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church, His Holiness, Patriarch Pavle, reposed in the Lord. The First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, offered his condolences to the Holy Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

 

Moscow: Brother Joseph Munoz-Cortes Remembered in Moscow

On St. Demetrius Ancestor’s Saturday on November 7, 2009 in one of the halls of the Central House of Writers in Moscow, people gathered to honor the memory of Brother Joseph (Jose Munoz-Cortes) on the occasion of the 12th anniversary of his martyric death.

 

Nyack, NY: Metropolitan Hilarion and Synodal Choir Director Peter A. Fekula visited the Holy Virgin Protection Church School

On Saturday, October 31, His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, arrived in Nyack to visit with the children and view the activities of the Holy Virgin Protection Church School. His Eminence was greeted with the peeling of bells. Metropolitan Hilarion began his visit by attending the kindergarten class, where the children received a blessing from the Hierarch and had the opportunity to sing and perform. 

 

Atlanta, GA: Bishop George led the Divine Services for the parish feast of Joy of All Who Sorrow Church

On Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8, Bishop George of Mayfield led the festal services at Joy of All Who Sorrow Church in Atlanta, Georgia, on the occasion of the parish feast day. The Vigil service was served by the parish rector, Archpriest Alexis Duncan, who was co-served by Priest Alexander Logunov (Charlotte, NC) and Deacon Zachary Rose (Roswell, GA), along with a large number of altar servers.

Jordanville, NY: Pilgrims from Washington D.C. honored the 12th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Brother Joseph Munoz-Cortes

The 12th annual pilgrimage of the cathedral parish of St John the Baptist in Washington, DC to the Holy Trinity Monastery was marked with a warm prayerful spirit. In addition to the parishioners of the cathedral in Washington, the group was joined by faithful of the Orthodox Church in America in the nation’s capital. This year's pilgrimage was attended by the new cultural attaché of the Embassy of Russia in Washington Vyacheslav Vladimirovich Moshkalo and his 14-year-old son.

Utica, NY: Metropolitan Hilarion celebrated the Divine Liturgy in St. John of Kronstadt Church

The parish of St. John of Kronstadt in Utica, NY celebrated its parish feast day on Sunday, November 1, and the feast seemed to be a continuation of last year's centenary festivities. The All-Night Vigil was served on Saturday, October 31, by rector Archpriest Michael Taratuchin, co-served by four deacons in the presence of His Grace, Bishop Peter of Cleveland, and approximately sixty faithful.  

 

New York: The Namesday of His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion

On Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th of November, the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Eastern America and New York, will lead the divine services in the Synodal Cathedral. During the services, the Synodal Choir will sing pieces by the distinguished composer of Russian spiritual music Pavel Grigorievich Chesnokov, on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of his repose.

 

New York: A Sermon by His Grace, Bishop Jerome, on the 21st Sunday after Pentecost

On Sunday, November 1st, the 21st Sunday after Pentecost and the feast of St. John of Kronstadt, His Grace, Bishop Jerome of Manhattan, celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Synodal Cathedral. Upon completion of the Liturgy, His Grace delivered the following sermon: "A sower went out to sow his seed" (Luke 8:5) The Gospel tells us what the seed is, and about the various hearers, but does not directly identify the Sower or the act of sowing. The Sower, of course, is Christ, in the person of His Church.

His Grace came to New Jersey in anticipation of the upcoming Diocesan Council meeting (to take place in New York) and celebration of Metropolitan Hilarion's namesday.
