On Tuesday, June 28, on the feast day of St. Jonah, Metropolitan of Moscow, and Blessed Jerome of Strideon, the namesday of His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Jerome of Manhattan, was celebrated in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York, NY. Under the protection of the Most Holy Theotokos and in the presence of Her wonderworking Kursk Root Icon, Bishop Jerome celebrated the Divine Liturgy.

Howell, NJ: Metropolitan Hilarion led a regular session of the Diocesan Council

On Wednesday, June 22, a regular session of the Diocesan Council was held in Howell, NJ, under the chairmanship of His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Eastern America & New York. The meeting began with the singing of the prayer "O Heavenly King," after which Council members sang "Memory Eternal" to the newly departed Archpriest Philip Petrovsky, and began their work.

On Saturday the 21st and Sunday the 22nd of May, the 5th Sunday of Pascha, His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, visited Holy Apostles Church in Beltsville, MD. Upon completion of the Divine Liturgy, the rector, Archpriest George Johnson, escorted the First Hierarch to the historic brick church that has been donated to the parish.

St. Vladimir Memorial Church in Jackson, NJ. Archpriest Philip Petrovsky was born on November 12, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY. In 1974 he married Tatiana Kozosko.

On May 29th, the Sunday of the Blind Man, members of the Eastern American Diocesan Youth Choir travelled to Novo-Diveevo, to the Holy Dormition Convent in Nanuet, NY, in order to sing at the divine services. The choir is comprised of young people from all over the diocese, and has sung at several parishes since its inception just a few years ago. This event marked the choir’s first gathering at Novo-Diveevo.

Jackson, NJ: Remembrance of Lienz Tragedy

On June 1, 1945, at the conclusion of the most terrible war in the history of mankind, in the mountain town of Lienz, over 20,000 Cossacks were rounded up and handed over to death in the Soviet Union. By tradition, the Kuban Cossack Voisko Abroad commemorates the victims of this tragedy every year on the nearest Sunday to June 1. On Sunday, May 29, on the Sunday of the Blind Man, worshippers gathered at St. Vladimir’s Cemetery in Jackson, NJ for a panihida at St. John’s Chapel.
