Eugenia Temidis

Eugenia Temidis is the founder, conductor, and musical director of the Holy Myrrhbearers Women’s Choir, a diocesan ensemble begun in 1998. Born in New York City and raised within the Russian-speaking community of Nyack, NY, she is active as a researcher, arranger, conductor, psalomschik, and educator. Under her leadership, the Holy Myrrhbearers Women’s Choir regularly sings at special services, charity events, and concerts throughout the diocese. In July 2008, Ms. Temidis completed her diploma from the Summer School of Liturgical Music at the Holy Trinity Seminary in Jordanville, NY. She spent 5 years at the post of choir conductor at the Holy Virgin Protection Church in Nyack, New York, and continues to guest conduct at various parishes of the Diocese as well as at the Synodal Cathedral. She also studies voice at Rockland Conservatory and teaches ensemble singing to children (including five of her own). Ms. Temidis strives to educate her singers and audiences, and her skills as a researcher were highlighted by her lecture on the life of St. Kassia at the 2008 Conference on Women in Orthodoxy in Glen Cove, NY.

As a student, Ms. Temidis toured the East Coast with the Drew University Chorale and Madrigal Group under the direction of organist Dr. Lester Berenbroick. For more than ten years, she sang with the Russian Choral Society in New York City for conductors Vladimir Roudenko, Alexander Ledkovsky, Vladimir Morosan, and Nikolai Kachanov, performing in Manhattan’s Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, and Philharmonic Hall, as well as on stages in Boston and Montreal. Ms. Temidis continues to sing with various church choirs, has been a regular participant in the annual Russian Orthodox Church Musicians’ Conferences since 1987, and traveled to Moscow with the ROCOR Choir in May, 2007 to sing at services during the historic reunification of the Russian Church. She is a member of the Synodal
Cathedral Choir in New York City, with which she has sung at a variety significant services and special events.
