Northville, NY: SGPA’s
“Day of Remembrance of the Fallen Faithful”
Saturday,
July 11, marked the “Day of Remembrance of the Fallen Faithful”
(Russian: DPV) at the summer camp of St. George Pathfinders of
America, “Tsarskoe Selo” Chapter. At 5:30 PM, the All-Night Vigil
began with the greeting of the relics of the Holy Royal Martyrs and
was led by His Grace, Bishop Jerome of Manhattan. Bishop Jerome was
co-served by the camp’s spiritual father, Archpriest Serge Lukianov,
Hieromonk Cyprian (Alexandrou), and Deacons Dimitri Temidis and Andrej
Strapko. After the Vigil and dinner, the memorial ceremony in honor of
the Day of Remembrance began.
The
ceremony began with the presentation of the color guard, which
included the standards of the chapter and of the St. Alexander Nevsky
Division (Lakewood, NJ) and, for the first time, an icon of the Holy
Royal Martyr Alexey with a piece of his relics (a gift from longtime
member of the Organization Alexey Zacharin). After the recital of the
Scout Law, the roll call of all those present in formation was
performed, after which – according to old army tradition – the
roll call of the “faithful” was performed. This roll call includes
fallen members of the Organization and, from before its inception,
those members of the Russian scouting movement at large, which began
100 years ago. At the end of roll call, Fr. Serge performed a Litiy
for all departed scouts, followed by a jubilee bonfire.
On
Sunday morning, July 12, the feast day of the Holy Apostles Peter
& Paul, the scouts stood in formation before the chapel to greet
Bishop Jerome. His Grace led the Divine Liturgy, co-served by the
aforementioned clergy and Protodeacon Vladimir Tsurikov. About 120 scouts
and counselors communed out of three chalices. At the end of the
service, Fr. Vladimir read aloud a Gramota of the First Hierarch of
the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, Metropolitan Hilarion, to all the members
of the Organization, on the occasion of the Centennial of Russian
Scouting. During the kissing of the cross, Scoutmaster Alexey Zacharin
distributed copies of the icon of St. Alexey to all the scouts. The
leadership of "Tsarskoe Selo" sincerely thanks Bishop Jerome
for his holy prayers and kind words during his first archpastoral
visit to the camp.
