Nashville, TN: Bishop George visits with the faithful of Nashville
On Tuesday,
August 11, Bishop George visited the Russian community in Nashville,
accompanied by the diocesan council’s Southern liaison, Priest John
Moses. The purpose of the visit was to meet with the faithful and
discuss plans for opening a new ROCOR parish in Nashville. Vladika and
Fr. John offered words of encouragement and assured the faithful that
they would have the full support of the diocese. Vladika reminded the
group that Orthodoxy was a “whole way of life,” and that opening a
new parish will require hard work, patience, and personal sacrifice.
Priest
Seraphim Scheidler, who has been given the oversight of the group,
concurred with the sentiments already expressed and also spoke words
of encouragement while stressing that the intention is to offer to
Nashville a Russian Orthodox community reflecting Russian
spirituality, with its Divine Services and contributing an Eastern
Slavic tradition to the already established buoyant Orthodox
communities, Greek, Antiochian, Romanian and Serbian. The next meeting
of the parish is scheduled for the end of September.
