Richmond, ME: The Kursk Root Icon visited St. Alexander Nevsky Church

On Monday the 25th and Tuesday the 26th of January, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited St. Alexander Nevsky Church in Richmond, ME. On Monday evening, the icon arrived at the church from Holy Trinity Monastery, accompanied by diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov, who, co-served by rector Archpriest Chad Williams and Protodeacon Vasily Milonow (cleric of Holy Virgin Protection Church in Ottawa, Canada), led the All-Night Vigil. Also praying in church were Archpriest Basil Arabatzis (rector of St. Demetrios Greek Church in Saco, ME) and Priest John Teague (cleric of the same). During the polyeleos, an akathist to the Most Holy Theotokos was served, and the faithful came to prayerfully venerate the wonder-working icon over the course of the entire service.

The following morning, the icon was present for the Divine Liturgy, celebrated by Fr. Serge, co-served by the rector and Protodeacon Vasily. Virtually the entire church partook of the Divine Mysteries. Upon completion of the Liturgy, Fr. Serge presented the rector with a copy of the Kursk Icon – a blessing of the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad. After the service, a bountiful luncheon was offered in a local hall, during which the parish was shown the photomontage of the Kursk Icon’s visit to Russia.
