New York, NY: The Namesday of Bishop Jerome of Manhattan in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign

bj1.jpg (58373 bytes)With the blessing of the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, the namesday of His Grace Jerome, Bishop of Manhattan, vicar of the Eastern American Diocese, was celebrated. Before the beginning of the Liturgy, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God was brought to the cathedral, having spent the last five months in Europe, Ukraine, and Russia.

The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Eminence Justinian, Archbishop of Naro-Fominsk, Administrator of the Patriarchal parishes in the USA, co-served by His Grace John, Bishop of Caracas and South America, Bishop Jerome, and a multitude of clergy of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Upon completion of the Liturgy, Archbishop Justinian greeted Bishop Jerome, congratulating him on his namesday and noting that His Grace’s life’s path, especially his work in translating the texts of the divine services, closely mirrored the life of Blessed Jerome of Stridonium, who translated the Holy Scriptures into Latin. Archbishop Justinian then presented Bishop Jerome with an icon of Christ, the Mother of God, and St. Nicholas.

On behalf of Metropolitan Hilarion, the members of the Diocesan Council, and the Eastern American Diocese, Bishop Jerome was greeted by diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov. His Grace was then presented with a new bishop’s mantle on behalf of all of the diocesan clerics.

Upon completion of the Liturgy, a bountiful celebratory reception was prepared by the Synodal sisterhood, led by Matushka Nadezha Mokhoff. Many touching and since words were offered at the reception by hierarchs and clergymen alike.
