Léogâne, Haiti: The Patronal Feast Day of Sts. Peter & Paul Church

hpp.lg.jpg (30645 bytes)On Monday, July 12, the parish of Sts. Peter and Paul in Léogâne, Haiti, celebrated its patronal feast day in a makeshift tent, which is now their only shelter for services. The town of Léogâne was one of the places hardest hit by the earthquake on January 12th, with most of its inhabitants and almost all of the Orthodox parishioners left homeless by the disaster. As witnessed by the pictures, faith is still strong, and hope and love have not left these wonderful people. The Divine Liturgy was served by Priest Jean Dumais and Priest Gregoire Legouté, who share the responsibility of serving this parish at least once a month. Léogâne is located southwest of Port-au-Prince. Little has been done there by means of public relief efforts, because it is not close enough to the capital. Parishioners and clergy are trying to find parishes and individuals who could help Orthodox families in Haiti to survive by joining the Haitian Orthodox Family Relief program. For more details on the program, see http://haitiorthodoxfamilyrelief.com.
