Mayfield, PA: The myrrh-streaming Hawaiian-Iveron Icon of the Mother of God visited St. John the Baptist Cathedral

On Sunday, September 18, on the feast of the Holy Prophet Zachariah and Righteous Elizabeth, the myrrh-streaming Hawaiian-Iveron Icon of the Mother of God visited St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Mayfield, PA. Before beginning of Sunday Matins, cathedral dean Archpriest John Sorochka greeted the wonderworking image of the Most Holy Theotokos at the cathedral entrance. The Icon was accompanied by its guardian, Reader Nectarios Yangston.

Fr. John then served Matins and celebrated the Divine Liturgy, co-served by cathedral Protodeacon Gregory Petrochko. Also praying in church were Archpriest Alexander Atty (dean of St. Tikhon’s Theological Seminary in South Canaan, PA) and Protodeacon Stephen Howanetz (cleric of St. Tikhon’s Monastery in South Canaan). In his sermon, Fr. John underscored the importance of honoring the Mother of God and recognizing her love for us sinners, and called on all to prepare themselves spiritually for the great feast of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos. Almost all of the faithful communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries and, hoping on the intercessions of Our Lady, venerated Her wonderworking Icon.

Pictures of the Hawaiian-Iveron Icon’s visit to St. John the Baptist Cathedral are available to our readers below.
