Moscow: Condolences of the Patriarch on the repose of Bishop Daniel of Erie

The Communication Service of Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia reports that His Holiness Patriarch Kyrill, expressed his condolences on the repose of Bishop Daniel of Erie, vicar bishop of the First Hierarch of ROCOR for the care of Old Believers.

To His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad

Your Eminence, beloved in the Lord Vladyka!

Christ is Risen!

I wholeheartedly greet you with this Paschal exclamation coupled with an expression of condolence on the repose of Bishop Daniel of Erie, who labored greatly and sincerely in Christ’s vineyard.

A humble monk and man of prayer has gone to the Lord, an archpastor beloved by his flock and brethren. Having received his spiritual instruction at Holy Trinity Seminary in Jordanville, he stood at God’s altar for almost forty-five years, zealously carrying out his service in Australia and the United States.

Bishop Daniel expressed special archpastoral care in his interest in the unification of the Orthodox Christian Old Rite Believers with the Mother Church, and in the establishment and well-being of their Old Rite parishes. His Grace always sorrowed over ancient and modern divisions alike, and sought opportunities to heal them. As he was an active Russian patriot, he considered finding paths to the restoration of Church unity a duty of great importance.

The archpastor gave all of his strength, spiritual experience and knowledge to the Church and the people of God. The Lord bestowed upon Bishop Daniel many talents. Possessing a deep understanding in the area of ancient Church history and art, the reposed devoted great efforts to see that the precious legacy of the past, being multiplied, might even now serve the good and fortification of Orthodoxy.

Alongside you, the family, friends, and spiritual children of the departed, I lift up my prayers to the Lord, the Giver of Life, that He might grant rest to the soul of His faithful servant and minister where the righteous repose.

With love in the Resurrected Christ,

+KYRILL
