With
the blessing of the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church,
His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion, on Monday, December 20, the
Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited Annunciation Greek
Cathedral in Columbus, OH. The icon’s guardian, Eastern American
Diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov, led the moleben and
akathist, co-served by cathedral dean Archpriest Michael Kontos,
Schema-Archimandrite Nicholas (Hughes; rector of St. Theodore House
skete in Galion, OH), Archpriest Athanasius Dresdow (rector of St.
Barnabas the Apostle Mission in Sunbury, OH), and parish cleric
Priest Panteleimon Maillis. Also praying in church was Priest James
Sizemore, cleric of St. Gregory of Nyssa Church in Columbus.
Upon completion of the moleben, Fr. Serge presented Fr. Michael with
a copy of the Kursk Icon with a commemorative plaque on behalf of
Metropolitan Hilarion, in memory of the wonder-working icon’s visit
to Columbus. Refreshments were then offered in the parish hall, and
a unique photomontage of the wonderworking icon’s return to Russia
in 2009 presented.
