Charleston, WV: The Kursk Root Icon visited St. George’s Antiochian Cathedral

On Wednesday evening, December 25, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God arrived in the capital of West Virginia and visited St. George’s Antiochian Cathedral, where it was greeted to the peal of bells and a multitude of the faithful. Parish clerics Archpriest Olof Scott (rector) and Priest Steven De Young served the Small Compline and akathist to the Mother of God. Praying in church were diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov and Holy Cross Monastery cleric Hieromonk Alexander (Frizzell), who were accompanying the icon.

The faithful came with tender emotion to venerate the holy icon, and many remained in the church late into the night, so as not to part ways with the Mother of God. O Most Holy Theotokos, save us!
