Wayne, WV: The Kursk Root Icon visited Holy Cross Monastery

On Friday, December 24, the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God arrived at Holy Cross Monastery in Wayne, WV. All of the monastery brethren came out to greet the icon, led by the monastery’s abbot His Grace George, Bishop of Mayfield. To the peal of bells, the monks triumphally carried the miraculous image into the monastery church for veneration, followed by a meal in the refectory. After lunch, diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov greeted the brethren on behalf of His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, and presented all of the monks with the newly published book on the Kursk Root Icon in gratitude for their monastic labors and holy undertakings.

That evening, on the eve of the feast of St. Herman of Alaska, His Grace led the All-Night Vigil and akathist to the Most Holy Theotokos; the following morning, Vladyka celebrated the Divine Liturgy, co-served by the deputy abbot, Abbot Seraphim, Archpriest Serge Lukianov, and monastery clergy: Hieromonk Alexander, Hieromonk Andrew, Hieromonk Nektarios, Hierodeacon Sergius, and Deacon Jeremiah Davis.

After the Liturgy, a bountiful luncheon was offered, after which Bishop George departed with the Icon for the capital of the United States, to St. John the Baptist Cathedral.
