Charlotte, NC: The Kursk Root Icon visited the Reigning Mother of God Church

On Saturday, February 12, the feast of the Synaxis of the Ecumenical Teachers and Hierarchs Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom, the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited the Church of the Reigning Mother of God in Charlotte, NC. Eastern American Diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the cozy church, co-served by rector Priest Alexander Logunov.

Upon completion of the Liturgy, Fr. Serge delivered a sermon on the importance of honoring the Mother of God in Her wonderworking Kursk Root Icon. After the service, the clergy and faithful performed a procession to the land adjacent to the church, blessing the ground where parishioners hope that, with God’s help, a new church will be built. Having served a short moleben, the priests sprinkled the land with holy water and blessed it with the Holy Cross and wonderworking Icon. Upon returning to the church, Fr. Serge presented the rector with an icon of the Mother of God of the Sign, a blessing from Metropolitan Hilarion, First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad. A bountiful luncheon was then offered in the parish hall.
