Nyack, NY: Christmas Yolka in the Parish School of Holy Virgin Protection Church

On Sunday, January 16, the traditional Christmas Yolka was held in the parish school of Holy Virgin Protection Church in Nyack, NY, with great success. After a prayer and the singing of carols, parish rector and parish school director Archpriest George Larin reminded everyone about the importance of the glorious feast of Christ’s Nativity in the life of every believer, and about the great importance of the family’s role in preserving and passing on the Orthodox faith and Russian language to the children, and then thanked all those who had labored to make the feast successful and organize the musical "The Frog Princess."

More than 80 children, students of the parish school, participated in the musical and work behind the scenes. The grateful audience – the mothers and fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers of the performers, friends of the school, and guests – awarded actors young and old with applause, flowers, and congratulations. From the bottom of his heart, the school’s curriculum director, Protodeacon Serge Arlievsky (cleric of Holy Dormition Convent "Novo-Diveevo" in Nanuet, NY) thanked all those who had worked on preparing for the feast. The bright feast concluded with a dance around the Christmas tree, complete with multicolored Christmas cookies baked the day before, the arrival of Santa in his sleigh, his delivery of presents for all the children, and a festal buffet prepared by the parents and teachers.
