Pennsylvania: The Kursk Root Icon visited Nativity of the Theotokos Greek Monastery and the Headquarters of the Carpatho-Russian Diocese

On Thursday, January 20, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited Nativity of the Theotokos Greek Monastery in Saxonburg, PA. After the greeting of the Icon by a cross procession, vespers were served by monastery cleric Archimandrite Demetrios (Carellas). All night, the nuns took turns praying before the holy icon of the Mother of God, while the faithful came from neighboring towns to venerate it.

The following morning, Fr. Demetrios celebrated the Divine Liturgy, co-served by diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov, who was accompanying the Icon, and Priest Michael Kallaur (rector of Presentation of Christ Church in East Pittsburgh, PA). Upon completion of the Liturgy, Fr. Serge greeted Abbess Theophano, and presented the sisterhood of the monastery with a copy of the Kursk Root Icon. A bountiful lenten lunch was then served in the monastery refectory.

The Kursk Root Icon then headed east to Johnstown, PA, in order to visit the headquarters of the Carpatho-Russian Diocese of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. After a short prayer before the Icon in the Metropolitan’s chapel, led by Metropolitan Nicholas of Amissos, Primate of the Carpatho-Russian Diocese, the Icon was taken to Christ the Saviour Cathedral and the Carpatho-Russian Diocesan Seminary.
