Albany, NY: The Kursk Root Icon visited the Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God

On Thursday, January 27, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited the Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God in Albany, NY. The parish clergy, led by the rector, Archpriest Wsewolod Drobot, greeted the Icon to the peal of bells. A moleben and akathist to the Most Holy Theotokos were served by the rector, co-served by diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov, who was accompanying the Icon, Archpriest Michael Fritz (parish cleric), Priest Apostolos Panos (rector of St. George’s Greek Church in Schenectady, NY) and parish clerics Priest Andrei Rudenko and Protodeacon Michael Soloviev.

Upon completion of the moleben, Fr. Serge spoke to the gathered faithful on the history, wonders, and travels of the wonderworking icon, and then presented the rector a copy of the Kursk Root Icon with a commemorative plaque on behalf of the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion. A bountiful luncheon was then offered in the parish hall, during which a photomontage of the Icon’s return to Russia in 2009 was presented.
