Simpson, PA: The Kursk Root Icon visited St. Basil’s Church

On Saturday, January 29, the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited St. Basil’s Church in Simpson, PA. Pennsylvania Dean and dean of neighboring St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Mayfield, Archpriest John Sorochka, celebrated the Divine Liturgy, co-served by parish rector Archpriest David Hritcko, Archpriest Michael Lepa (cleric of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk Monastery in South Canaan, PA), Archpriest Basil Micek (rector of Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Scranton, PA), and Eastern American Diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov, who was accompanying the Icon. The triumphal singing of the "Podoben" Male Chorus under the direction of Reader Gabriel Monforte, facilitated the prayerful, festal mood of all the clergy and faithful present.

Upon completion of the Liturgy, Fr. Serge presented the rector with a copy of the Kursk Icon – a blessing of the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad in honor of the visit of the wonder-working icon to the parish. A bountiful breakfast was then served in the parish hall for all those present.
