New York, NY: The namesday of Bishop Jerome of Manhattan was celebrated in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign

On Tuesday, June 28, on the feast day of St. Jonah, Metropolitan of Moscow, and Blessed Jerome of Strideon, the namesday of His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Jerome of Manhattan, was celebrated in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York, NY.

Under the protection of the Most Holy Theotokos and in the presence of Her wonderworking Kursk Root Icon, Bishop Jerome celebrated the Divine Liturgy. His Grace was co-served by Archimandrite Ioann (Magramm), Hieromonk Nicholas (Perekrestov; cathedral cleric), Hieromonk Simeon (Charon), Priest Jonah Campbell (cleric of St. George’s Church in Howell, NJ), Protodeacon Nicholas Mokhoff (cathedral cleric), Protodeacon Dimitri Temidis (cleric of Holy Virgin Protection Church in Nyack, NY), Deacon Leonid Roschko (cleric of St. George’s Church in Howell, NJ), and Deacon Nathan Mousselli (cleric of St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Lakewood, NJ).

Also praying in church were the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Eastern America & New York, the Chancellor of the Synod of Bishops, Archpriest Serafim Gan, and Abbess Aemiliane (rectress of the Convent of Entrance of the Theotokos in Washington, DC).

In his sermon on the topic of the feast and its prokeimenon, "My lips shall utter wisdom, and the teaching of my heart shall be knowledge", His Grace, the Bishop of Manhattan said: 

The sense of these words is made clear by the text of the Epistle that was read after them: "For from a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures, which can make thee wise unto salvation". That is: there is no human wisdom, but true wisdom can be attained only through Divine revelation. But reason, knowledge, is when we put wisdom into effect in our lives: when we live according to the will of the Almighty. It was in this conviction that the Blessed Jerome devoted himself from an early age to the study of the Sacred Scriptures. It remains for us to follow his example, so as to possess wisdom, and to live by it.

Upon completion of the Liturgy, the First Hierarch greeted his vicar on the occasion of his namesday, and wished him fortitude and God’s aid in his laborious archpastoral service to Christ’s Holy Church and our Eastern American Diocese. On behalf of all of the faithful children of the diocese, Metropolitan Hilarion presented Bishop Jerome with an icon of St. Theodore of Tarsus, Archbishop of Canterbury.

In response, Bishop Jerome thanked His Eminence, the clergy, and all those present for their congratulations, their well wishes and their joint prayer.

A reception was held in the Synodal hall, where congratulatory speeches were made in honor of His Grace. The First Hierarch then invited the clergy to continue their festive interaction in his hierarchal residence.
