Wayne, WV: The First Hierarch of ROCOR arrived at Holy Cross Monastery

On Saturday, October 1, the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Eastern America & New York, arrived at Holy Cross Monastery in Wayne, WV to lead the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the monastery’s founding.

The monastery brethren, led by His Grace, monastery abbot and Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop George of Mayfield, lined up to greet His Eminence. Bishop George greeted his ruling bishop, welcoming him to the monastery and thanking him for his second hierarchal visit. The monastery brethren then came to the Metropolitan for a blessing.

At 2:30 PM, a procession from the main monastery church to the outdoor chapel was held, carrying a cross with pieces of the True Cross, an icon with the relics of St. Panteleimon, and the myrrh-streaming Hawaiian-Iveron Icon of the Mother of God, which was visiting Holy Cross Monastery for the first time. Metropolitan Hilarion then served a moleben before the holy icons and relics, co-served by diocesan, monastery, and local clergy.

At 4:00 PM, a bountiful dinner was offered by the brethren for all the pilgrims, and at 6:00 PM Metropolitan Hilarion led the All-Night Vigil with Litiya. Almost all of the worshipers confessed their sins, eagerly awaiting Sunday morning.
