On Wednesday, July 28, His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan Vicar Bishop Jerome of Manhattan, celebrated the Divine Liturgy in St. Vladimir Memorial Church on the occasion of the church’s patronal feast day. In his sermon, Bishop Jerome emphasized the responsibility of every Christian to spread and bear witness to the Orthodox faith among heterodox peoples, as the holy Grand Prince, Equal-of-the-Apostles, did in his time. 

Léogâne, Haiti: The Patronal Feast Day of Sts. Peter & Paul Church

On Monday, July 12, the parish of Sts. Peter and Paul in Léogâne, Haiti, celebrated its patronal feast day in a makeshift tent, which is now their only shelter for services. The town of Léogâne was one of the places hardest hit by the earthquake on January 12th, with most of its inhabitants and almost all of the Orthodox parishioners left homeless by the disaster. As witnessed by the pictures, faith is still strong, and hope and love have not left these wonderful people.

Jacmel, Haiti: Patronal feast day of St. Augustine’s Parish

On Monday, June 28th, the Parish of Blessed Augustine in Jacmel, Haiti, celebrated its patronal feast day. The services were led by Priest Jean Chenier-Dumais and Priest Gregoire Legouté, with many parishioners in attendance. After the Liturgy, the clergy baptized over 50 men, women and children. Some of the adults were baptized in the ocean.

Simpson, PA: The Port Arthur Icon of the Mother of God visited St. Basil’s Church

With the blessing of His Grace George, Bishop of Mayfield, the widely venerated copy of the Port Arthur Icon of the Mother of God is traveling to the various parishes of Pennsylvania. The Icon is traditionally kept in the main church of Holy Cross Monastery, and was brought to St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Mayfield for the patronal feast day.

From Sunday, June 27, through Friday, July 2,  the summer scout camp St. George Pathfinders of America (SGPA), "Tsarskoe Selo" Chapter (Northville, NY), held a Troop Leadership Course (abbreviated KDV in Russian) to prepare camp youth to lead scout troops. Twenty-seven boy and girl scouts from Chapters "Tsarskoe Selo" and "Putivl" (Washington, DC) participated in the course.

Jacksonville, FL: Abbot Augustine (Whitfield) has reposed in the Lord

On Sunday, July 4, Dom Augustine (Whitfield), Abbot of the Congregation of Mt. Royal in Jacksonville, FL, reposed in the Lord. Fr. Augustine came of a very old American family stretching back to Scotland, and is distantly related to the Scottish Royal House. The 17th century Whitfield House that appears in architectural books on Connecticut was built by his ancestors. He was from the Southern branch of the family, and his grandfather, Judge John Whitfield, was well known in Jacksonville.
