Zachariah and Righteous Elizabeth, the myrrh-streaming
Hawaiian-Iveron Icon of the Mother of God visited St. John the
Baptist Cathedral in Mayfield, PA. Before beginning of Sunday
Matins, cathedral dean Archpriest John Sorochka greeted the
wonderworking image of the Most Holy Theotokos at the cathedral
entrance.

On Thursday, September 8, parishioners of the constructed Church
of the Holy Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God in Coronado, Costa
Rica, gathered for the first celebration of their parish’s
patronal feast day. For the past 17 years, the parish has been
meeting in various homes in the vicinity of the capital, San José.
The Divine Liturgy was served by Archpriest Daniel McKenzie
(rector of St. Vladimir Church in Miami, FL).

visit to Lakewood, NJ, for the patronal feast day of St. Alexander

In an effort to help all our clergy and their spouses reap the
many spiritual benefits of attending a diocesan clergy conference,
the Diocesan Council has resolved to organize two conferences; one
in the fall and one in the winter. The fall conference will be
held at Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY, October 18-20,
2011. The winter conference will be held at St. Vladimir Church in

On Tuesday, August 30, a regular meeting of the Diocesan Council
was held in Howell, NJ, chaired by His Eminence Hilarion,
Metropolitan of Eastern America & New York.
The meeting opened with the singing of the troparion to the
Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos, after which the Council
members began their work.

Diocese mark the 35th anniversary of the repose of Archbishop
Nikon (Rklitsky), formerly of Washington and Florida,
administrator of the diocese. Archbishop Nikon was a significant
historical figure in the development of the Church Abroad,
spreading the Gospel of Christ far and wide throughout the North
American continent.

On Saturday the 27th and Sunday the 28th of August, on the great
feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos, His Grace
George, Bishop of Mayfield, led the divine services in Holy Cross
Monastery in Wayne, WV. His Grace was co-served by the monastery's
deputy abbot, Abbot Seraphim (Voepel), and monastery clergy.
At the end of the All-Night Vigil, during the Great Doxology, the
monks performed a procession with the burial shroud of the Mother
of God.

On Sunday evening, as
the hurricane left the shores of the East Coast, Metropolitan
Hilarion issued a statement in which he gave thanks to the Lord
for His great and abundant mercy. His Eminence also said, "It is
no coincidence that our churches suffered relatively minor damage
because of the timing of the hurricane, which coincided with the
Dormition of the Mother of God.
