On Friday, January 20, the rector of St. Vladimir’s Church in Miami, FL, Archpriest Daniel McKenzie, flew to Costa Rica with Matushka Sophia to serve at Our Lady of Vladimir Mission, founded by Fr. Daniel 18 years ago. On Saturday, January 21, Fr. Daniel baptized two infants, Demetrio and Nina, and served Vigil that evening in the house chapel of the reposed Priest Rodion Aragon (+2009).

On January 22-25, the Protectress of the Russian Diaspora, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God, visited St. John the Wonderworker Church in Framingham, MA. During the first days of the visit, rector Archpriest Yaroslav Belikow, accompanied by the Icon’s guardian, Protodeacon Nicholas Olhovsky, visited many parishioners; a moleben to the Mother of God was served in each home.

On Saturday the 14th and Sunday the 15th of January, in the feast of the Repose and Second Finding of the Relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov, His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Eastern America & New York, carried out an archpastoral visit to Holy Dormition Convent "Novo-Diveevo." On Saturday evening, His Eminence served the All-Night Vigil in the monastery’s main church.

On Wednesday the 18th and Thursday the 19th of January, on the great feast of the Baptism of our Lord, His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop George of Mayfield, led the divine services in Holy Cross Monastery. On January 18, the Eve of the feast, Bishop George led the Vespers and Liturgy service, followed by the Great Blessing of the Water. That evening, His Grace led the All-Night Vigil, and the following morning, on the very day of the feast, celebrated the Divine Liturgy and once more performed the Great Blessing of the Water.

On Saturday, January 14, on the eve of the winter feast of St. Seraphim, the rector of St. Seraphim of Sarov Church in Sea Cliff, NY, Archpriest Serafim Gan, served the All-Night Vigil, co-served by parish clerics: Protodeacon Paul Wolkow and Deacon Eugene Kallaur. A reception was then held in the rector’s residence on the occasion of the continuing holy days of Christmas, the New Year, and the upcoming feast of St. Seraphim of Sarov.

On Friday morning, January 13, Archpriest Laurence Girard, a cleric of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, peacefully reposed after a valiant battle against cancer. He was 72 years old. The son of Robert E. and Pearl (Dobstaff) Girard, the future Fr. Laurence was born in Buffalo, NY, in 1939. In 1964, he married Maureen (in baptism Marina) McConeghy.

Archpriest Laurence Girard was born on July 14, 1939, in Buffalo, NY. In 1964, he married Marina McConeghy.
